Contact Me

My name is Ruben T. Barrera and I started Red Thumb Woodworks in the Fall of 1997.

I started doing a few Arts and Crafts shows when someone connected with the Botanical Gardens invited me to set up my booth at their semi-annual plant show. That's when I really got involved in woodworking. I made birdfeeders, birdhouses, critter houses (bug houses), and seasonal yard decorations. I started at the Botanical Gardens around 1998 and up until last year, 2020. Then COVID-19 put a halt to the majority of the Arts and Crafts shows. But I am still making my birdfeeders and seasonal yard decorations. I will be posting some of my birdfeeders and other projects in the coming months.

I will be updating up my Red Thumb Woodworks Facebook page in March.

I worked at the CPL Nueces Bay Power Station from July 1977 until January 2005 when I was laid off. I then went to work for the City of Corpus Christi in the Wastewater Division. I was at the Broadway Wastewater Treatment Plant and then transferred to the Allison Wastewater Treatment Plant. I started in July of 2005 and retired August 2017. Yep, right before Hurricane Harvey arrived. So I have been doing my woodwork on a more regular basis. Now I have my granddaughters involved in it too. They have Pink Thumb Woodworks.

I fabricate and paint everything I make. I then brand all of my work with my handmade branding iron. So I hope you enjoy my work and would like to purchase some of my work.
